The First Ever Apprentice Hired by City Celebrates His 10-Year Work Anniversary

He’s a City Facilities Management success story, moving from apprentice to a highly skilled Retail Store Technician (RST).

Aaron Baszanowski joined City Facilities Management in February 2016 as a second-year apprentice, based in Wollongong, NSW.

Aaron says, “from day one, I was eager to learn as much as I could about the industry, and those early experiences laid a strong foundation for everything that followed. I committed myself to developing both my skills and my confidence, knowing that every challenge was an opportunity to grow.”

As an apprentice, Aaron was able to travel across NSW and the ACT, working alongside talented RSTs and RHVAC (retain heating, ventilation and air conditioning) technicians.

“Each job, mentor, and location contributed something valuable to my development. These experiences not only strengthened my technical abilities but also deepened my appreciation for the trade and the people who make it such a rewarding career,” Aaron says.

“After completing my apprenticeship, I learned of an RST position opening in Canberra. Determined to take the next step, I reached out to my Regional Operations Manager to express my interest. I embraced the interview process and was proud to be offered the role.”

In 2019, Aaron began his role in Canberra as a qualified electrician, something he describes as an important milestone in his career.

“From the very beginning, I approached the opportunity with enthusiasm and commitment, and it’s a role I continue to take great pride in.

“Over the years, City Facilities Management has supported my growth and shown me what it truly means to be proud of where you work. Looking back on my journey, I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given and every person who has helped me along the way. I look forward to continuing my career here for many years to come.”
